E-visa Prime Glossary

We hope this glossary paves a smooth and assured way towards acquiring an e-Visa. We compiled the terms & concepts used in the e-Visa process and made a glossary for easy understanding. This applies to all types of e-Visa from tourism, business, medical, and E-conference to transit.

A

Applicant – Traveler who is applying for an e-Visa

Application ID- A unique identification number assigned to the applicants for future tracking & references

Biometric passport– A biometric passport is a modern passport that can be scanned electronically.

Business e-Visa- Type of e-Visa issued for Business Purposes

Business Card-  A card that contains the organization’s details.

 

C

Consulate-  Provides various travel-related services to the citizens of the consulate’s country. Also, where traditional visa processing takes place.

Country of Residence- Place where the applicant resides.

 

D

Diplomatic Passport – Passport used by the Government Officials

Denied Application– Application that has been rejected.

Dual Nationality- Applicants with dual citizenship

 

E

e-Visa- Electronic visa

eTA– Electronic Travel Authorization

Entry Points- Designatedauthorized entry Points for international travelers

Embassy – A diplomatic mission located in the capital city of a foreign country eg- The Canadian Embassy in India

Embassy Registration- Notifying your home country’s embassy that you are traveling abroad

Exit Visa- A document issued by the Government that permits one to leave a country.

Exit Points- Designatedauthorized exit Points for international travelers

E- Conference Visa-  Type of e-Visa for conference purposes,

Family Visa – A document that allows a person to live with their family.

Fee – Charges associated with the application Process.

Form- An electronic visa form is an online travel permit form

 

I

Immigration Authority – The Government Authority responsible for the entry & exit of travelers across country borders.

International Driving Permit- A document that permits a person to drive vehicles abroad.

Invitation Letter for a Visa- A letter from the host of the event in the destination country, or which explains the the purpose of your visit.

Land Border Crossing- Designated Land Checkpoints

Letter of Approval- Same as Approval Letter

Machine-Readable Passport –  Passport that contains Computer-readable data.

Medical e-Visa- Type of e-Visa for Individual medical purposes.

Medical Attendant e-Visa – Type of e-Visa for escorting a medical patient to another country.

Multiple-Entry Visa- This permits an e-Visa holder multiple entries into a nation throughout the validity period.

Passport – An official travel document issued by the Government.

Passport Validity- There will be a validity period or an expiry date for all the passports.

Processing Time-  Time taken to process an e-Visa after the submission.

 

R

Residence Permit- A document issued by the Immigration Authority to reside in that country.

Required Documents- Documents required to apply for an e-Visa.

Rejection- Denial of the application

Seaport – Designated authorized cruises hip entry/exit point

Single Entry Visa- This allows the holder to enter a country a single time within the validity period.

Student visa- This allows foreign students to study at their favorite  University/ School abroad.

Status of e-Visa- Progress of the e-Visa after the submission.

 

T

Temporary Passport – A special type of passport that has a short-term validity

Tourist Tax- Also known as a visitor tax or hotel tax. This is a fee that applies to your accommodation at foreign hotels.

Tourist e-Visa – This type of e-Visa allows for tourism purposes.

Transit e-Visa- This helps a traveler to pass through a country while traveling to another country

Urgent Processing – Processing of an e-Visa in emergencies.

Vaccination Card – Vaccination certificate

Vaccine Passport- Same as a vaccination certificate, a proof that you are vaccinated

Visa Information System- Also called VIS. Permits the sharing and exchange of information about visas between all Schengen States

Visa on Arrival- An e-Visa, that is applied and received at the arrival point.

Visa Run- A process that helps travelers to extend their e-Visa.

Visa Sponsorship- An individual or an entity sponsoring other persons travel

Visa Validity- Validity of an e-Visa

Visa Waiver Program- This allows a tourist or a business person to stay in a country for 90 days without a visa. Not applicable to all countries.

Work Visa – Allows a working professional to work abroad

Working Holiday Visa- This allows an individual to work during their stay in a country.
